babbling

yeah it's broken lolcome back laterr

I think the appeal of older tech is that it feels more like a machine rather than a magic box. you have to put the needle on the vinil and watch it spinning, you can see the tape and have to rewind it, the modem making sounds reminds you of the whole process that is happening. even a dvd, a shiny disk of digital data read by a laser, is much more concrete now that we have streaming platforms. everything is more efficient and also more abstract. you can decide to sit down and learn how cpus and touch screens and wifi work, but unless something goes wrong you can ignore it
older modems were probably annoying and annoyingly slow idk I never had to use them, but I think they're so cool! you can hear the sounds they make to establish connection!

Heartbeat

I've seen some people write that their own heartbeat freaks them out. They don't want to know what's going on "in there". I couldn't disagree more.
I like listening to my heartbeat. I like looking at the inside of my mouth in the mirror. I like touching my body to feel my bones. I like feeling my tendons move in my wrists.
I love our bodies' mechanicality, machines of flesh and bones. Somehow this mechanism is alive, is self-aware, is me. I find it amazing.

beep... beep... beep... beep...

I have so many feelings for Sputnik 1.
It was just a beeping ball in orbit. It was the start of a new era.
It was a little shiny sphere all alone up there, with the most important mission in the world.
I cannot imagine what people felt when they looked up at the night sky and for the first time in history they knew one of those dots was human-made.
