beep... beep... beep... beep...

I have so many feelings for Sputnik 1.
It was just a beeping ball in orbit. It was the start of a new era.
It was a little shiny sphere all alone up there, with the most important mission in the world.
I cannot imagine what people felt when they looked up at the night sky and for the first time in history they knew one of those dots was human-made.

Overview Effect

Space is so big I can't wrap my head around it. The Moon looks so close, and yet all the planets from our solar system fit between it and Earth! The Sun is so far away that its light reaches us after 8 minutes. Voyager 1 has been travelling for 40+ years and its barely outside our system.
